Question! – What is – and where is- my thyroid gland and what does it do?!!!
The thyroid gland is a butterfly shaped gland located on either side of your ‘Adams apple’. It secretes two hormones which are known collectively as the major metabolic hormone. These hormones affect every cell in your body.
Effects of thyroid hormones:
- Maintains metabolic rate/body temperature/blood glucose level/blood pressure
- Stimulates adrenal hormones
- Absorption of nutrients and protein synthesis
- Regulates tissue growth, maintenance and maturation
- Oxygen consumption.
