REFLEXOLOGY
What is Reflexology?
Reflexology is a form of ‘alternative’ or ‘complementary’ medicine,
which involves a method of treatment using specific touch techniques,
which are similar, but different from acupressure and massage. Most
commonly the feet are treated.
In the feet, there are reflex areas corresponding to all the parts of
the body, (glands, organs, muscles, nervous system, and skeletal
system). The physical act of applying pressure, using thumb, finger and
hand techniques to these reflex areas results in the reduction of
stress, which promotes physiological changes in the body.
By having the whole body represented in the feet, Reflexology offers a
means of treating the body as a whole, and therefore allows not only
the symptoms to be treated, but also the causes of symptoms.
What can Reflexology help?
Many disorders such as migraine, sinus problems, hormonal imbalances,
tension, stress; digestive and circulatory problems have successfully
been helped by Reflexology. Other common disorders, such as insomnia,
poor concentration, PMS, and low immune function also respond well to
treatment.
Reflexology and Stress
Many health problems today are linked or exacerbated by stress, whether
it is emotional, physical or mental. It is common knowledge that a body
that tries to function while under stress is less capable of being able
to combat illness, or repair damage caused by injury.
Reflexology reduces stress and its effect on the body by improving
lymphatic drainage, venous circulation, stimulation to the nerve
pathways, and muscle relaxation. This process aids in the elimination
of toxins and waste products, at the same time helps the mind and body
to relax. As stress decreases, function to the body is restored.
